We’re So Smart

News of today. “July Was Hottest Month Since Records Began”. Those records began “more than a century ago”. Of course, climate change proselytizers have you all aghast at this revelation and point to it as proof that we only have 12 years to live.

Fact is the earth is 4.5 billion years old. Using data that is just over 100 years old to prognosticate our demise may not be the most accurate. But then, if you want to make your point, you will grasp at any straw.

I’m still waiting for the second ice age that was deemed inevitable by some of the same people now calling for our overheating deaths.

In the meantime, I continue to conserve, reuse and do reasonable things to keep our earth healthy.

  1. The earth is cooling, but not at an even pace. Only fifty million years ago England was covered by a tropical jungle though it is (and was then) at a higher latitude than Maine. Then it started cooling. The north-pole ice cap appeared for the very first time only 8 million years ago. Eventually the ice sheet spread southward and covered much of Pennsylvania with ice miles deep – so heavy that it formed the depressions that became the Great Lakes. According to Earth Systems History by Stanley, ‘We still live in the Ice Age…Ice caps in the far north remain poised to spread southward as they have done repeatedly during the past 3 million years or so.’ (Stanley is no ‘warming denier’.)

By the way, CO2 50% higher 5-7 million years ago, and actually DECREASED as the planet warmed and the ice sheets withdrew to northern Canada!

In the 1970s they were predicting Snowball Earth. That is actually where we are going sooner or later.
