More Smoke in the Department of Justice

7/29/22

I read today that the FBI is looking to reach a settlement over the botched investigation of Dr. Nasser and US Olympic team women gymnasts. The suit for a cool $1,000,0000,000 of taxpayer money, alleges the FBI did not conduct a proper investigation of Dr. Nasser despite being notified of his tawdry activities. The errors committed by the FBI lead to more women being abused. Oh well. Write a check and move on. But wait, maybe we shouldn’t go so fast this time.

This case, coupled with a growing understanding of the role of the Department of Justice and more specifically, the FBI, in “Russiagate”, and the burying of the Hunter Biden laptop, is bringing to light a very disturbing pattern of malfeasance. There are some very bad actors at the FBI and the rot started at the top with Director James Comey and continues today with Christopher Wray’s ignoring the need to clean house.

The question for us now is this institutional? Is it just some ardent leftists seeking to impose their political will or is the entire organization now spun to a single political view? Indeed, the recent comments of the Attorney General, Merrick Garland should cause concern. In an interview he stated that the Department would “…pursue justice without fear or favor. We hold anyone responsible…” when discussing January 6th.  But it’s clear that they are not pursuing apparent federal crimes by Antifa, Black Lives Matter, Hunter Biden, and protesters of Supreme Court Justices.

If the FBI isn’t investigating and burying findings not consistent with their political persuasion when it does investigate, and the Department of Justice is selectively pursuing indictments for non-violent alleged crimes like contempt of Congress and trespassing, there is more than smoke coming from the Department. It’s on fire.
